QuickBooks online is a software in “the cloud” - along with their website which can be logged into and accessed anywhere, they also have a Mobile App so you have real-time access to your accounting records.

QuickBooks Desktop is a downloaded hard-drive software, it cannot be accessed on-the-go easily. There are “LogMeIn” remote servers that offer access to your desktop but they are not cheap or reliable.
